Cold-Process Simple Syrup (No Heat)¾ oz22 ml
Yes, you can make simple syrup without heat: shake equal weights of sugar and room-temperature water in a sealed jar, rest, and shake again until no crystals remain, about 15 minutes.

Rich Simple Syrup (2:1)½ oz15 ml
Rich simple syrup is two parts sugar to one part water by weight: 400 g sugar dissolved in 200 ml hot water.

Lime Cordial¾ oz22 ml
Lime cordial is a sweet-tart lime concentrate made from lime zest, fresh lime juice, sugar and citric acid.
Replaces both the lime juice and the simple syrup: 2 oz gin plus 3/4–1 oz cordial. Homemade cordial is usually tarter than Rose's.
As printed: Savoy: equal parts gin and Rose's lime juice cordial; Imbibe: 2 oz gin + 3/4 oz Rose's lime juice
Where it comes from
The gimlet is first recorded in print in 1928, and The Savoy Cocktail Book (1930) gave it as equal parts Plymouth gin and Rose's lime juice cordial. Fresh lime juice with simple syrup is the usual modern version.
