The syrup
In this recipe
Classic Simple Syrup½ oz15 ml
Simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water, heated just until the sugar dissolves.
The 1/2 oz lemon juice, 1/2 oz simple syrup and 1 oz water in our spec make the 2 oz of lemonade in a 3:1 glass. For a half-and-half version, double the lemonade portion and cut the tea to 4 oz.
As printed: Lemonade (Palmer never gave a lemonade recipe); the iced tea is unsweetened.
Or use
Lemon Syrup½ oz15 ml
Lemon syrup is simple syrup flavored with lemon zest and finished with fresh lemon juice.
Use instead of the simple syrup for a zestier lemonade portion. It already contains some lemon juice, so you can trim the fresh juice slightly.
As printed: Lemonade.
Where it comes from
Golfer Arnold Palmer started asking for a pitcher of iced tea with a little lemonade in it at home in Pennsylvania. In the 1960s, after a woman at a restaurant overheard him order it and asked for 'a Palmer,' the drink took his name; his company began bottling it with AriZona in the early 2000s.
